Thermal Engineering Laboratory
Study of internal combustion engines, boilers, air compressors, and fuel properties through various experimental setups and test rigs.
Lab Overview
The Thermal Engineering Laboratory is a well-equipped facility that provides students with hands-on experience in internal combustion engines, boilers, air compressors, and fuel testing. The laboratory includes a comprehensive range of experimental setups such as single- and multi-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, engine test rigs, Lancashire and Babcock-Wilcox boilers, valve timing apparatus, and a two-stage air compressor test rig.
The laboratory also provides facilities for the experimental study of fuel and lubricant properties using Redwood and Saybolt viscometers, Abel's flash point apparatus, Pensky-Martens closed cup flash point apparatus, Cleveland open cup flash and fire point apparatus, and Conradson Carbon Residue apparatus. These facilities enable students to understand engine performance, combustion-related parameters, boiler operation, compressor characteristics, and fuel properties through experimentation and analysis.
The laboratory helps students develop practical, analytical, and problem-solving skills in thermal engineering, with emphasis on the operation, performance evaluation, and analysis of various thermal systems and equipment.
