A. Preventive Maintenance of laboratories
Preventive maintenance is carried out periodically to minimize breakdowns and maintain laboratory equipment in proper working condition.
- Inspect all laboratory equipment, instruments, power supplies, and connections regularly for faults or damage.
- Clean electronic equipment, trainer kits, computers, and workstations regularly to prevent dust accumulation.
- Check power cables, plugs, sockets, switches, MCBs, fuses, and earthing connections for electrical safety.
- Calibrate measuring instruments such as CRO/DSO, Multimeters, function generators, and frequency counters periodically.
- Check the proper functioning of microprocessor, microcontroller, communication, and electronic trainer kits.
- Inspect patch cords, BNC cables, probes, connectors, and other accessories, and replace damaged items.
- Maintain proper ventilation, lighting, temperature, cleanliness, fire safety, and emergency arrangements in the laboratory.
- Maintain updated records of equipment inventory, calibration, preventive maintenance, breakdowns, repairs, and servicing.
B. Corrective Maintenance of Laboratories
Corrective maintenance is undertaken whenever a fault, malfunction, or breakdown is reported. Necessary repair or replacement is carried out to restore the equipment to satisfactory working condition.
- Identify and diagnose faults in laboratory equipment, instruments, circuits, and power supplies.
- Repair or replace damaged components such as ICs, transistors, resistors, capacitors, cables, connectors, and switches.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning electronic trainer kits, oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, and measuring instruments.
- Repair faulty wiring, loose connections, patch cords, switches, sockets, and other electrical connections.
- Replace damaged or non-functional computer systems, peripherals, communication devices, and networking components.
- Calibrate or service measuring instruments whenever inaccurate readings or abnormal performance is observed.
- Record all faults, repairs, replaced components, and maintenance activities in the laboratory maintenance register.
